Weekend Proves Profitable for Barley

"Movie City News" has the estimate up for this weekend's take for "The Wind that Shakes the Barley," the Ken Loach directed Palme d' Or winner which opened to critical acclaim here in New York this Friday.

Although the movie opened only on 9 screens in the United States this weekend(5 in California, 2 in New York, 2 in Boston according to IFC's website), the gross for the film was an average of $9,210 per theater, bringing its first weekend total to $75,300. that made it Number 26 for the weekend, a staggering ranking when you consider the small number of cinemas.

This film will open in more independent art houses as time progresses; remember we here at WGT first picked this one to click last May when it surprised everyone by sweeping the Cannes Film Festival.
